It has been so long since I’ve tried a powder foundation. Something about the BareMinerals Performance Wear Pressed Powder Foundation caught my eye. I loved their original loose powder foundation in my early 20’s, so I wanted to see how a powder would look in my 40’s. I also wanted to share swatches of the two shades I purchased online, it surprised me which one was the better color match when they arrived!
Bare Minerals states that this is a mineral powder foundation for all skin types, with 12 hours of budge proof wear. It claims to reduce the look of pores, improve skin clarity (not sure if they mean over time or instantly with coverage) and control shine.
My skin is on the drier side, age 40. I found this powder to be surprisingly flattering! I still prefer liquids for on camera and photos, but this powder did not accentuate fine lines as much as I thought it might.
It has a really silky feeling and glides over the skin during application. It has a soft finish look on my skin.
I find myself reaching for it quite a bit, especially for days I need quick coverage. I love the pressed powder version, I find it easier to use vs the Bare Minerals loose powder foundation.
It lasts hours on my skin without cracking or fading. I prefer to set it with a setting spray. Other powder makeup (bronzer, blush, etc) applies easily over this foundation, without looking heavy.
Overall I am very impressed with this foundation. I think it works best applied sparingly with either the sponge it comes with (used dry) or the BK Beauty 105 buffing brush (my preference.) I can’t believe how often I reach for it and how good it looks on my skin!
Here is the skin tone and undertone information according to BareMinerals.
I actually found shade 06 to better suit me in the skin tone range, however the yellow really comes out once it’s on my skin. The shade 09 is beautiful, however I would personally classify it as a light-to-medium skin tone as it’s a better match when I have a faux tan. The peach undertones are very nice and subtle.
I typically wear a shade Light Natural 03 in the Bare Minerals loose original foundation powder and will keep hunting for the perfect match to that.
shade Cashmere 06 | fair skin tone + neutral, slightly yellow undertones
shade Light Natural 09 | light skin tone + warm, peach undertones
