I LOVE matte lipsticks. I love them. Until about 5 hours in, when my lips start to feel super chapped. And then the next day when my lips are kind of weird and scaley and peeling looking.
I hadn’t thought about that when I wear cream finish lipsticks with lip gloss, that the gloss keeps my lips moisturized. I started wearing matte lipsticks this past year and love how they look, but man-oh-man, they do dry out your lips by not wearing gloss over them. And if you wear gloss, then they aren’t matte anymore. Wah! And matte formulas tend to be drier than a regular finish lipstick, so I really needed a solution.
I was packing my “purse makeup bag” for the day, you know, the bag-inside-a-bag-bag. I made sure to tuck in my Nars matte lip pencil that I was wearing. Next to it in the drawer was a tinted Burt’s Bees lip balm in the same shade family.
LIGHTBULB MOMENT.
You bet your bottom dollar that Burt’s Bees came along with me. Burt’s Bees makes so many different colors of tinted lip balm that I got one in every shade of lipstick I own. Then every hour or so, I slick a little on over my lipstick. Because the Burt’s Bees has some color, they keep the color of your lipstick up and keep your lips hydrated. They do slightly take away the matte effect, but trust me, this is prettier than super dry lips by the end of the day.
WIN-WIN.
