In this post, I’ll share my initial thoughts after wearing the foundation and also swatches of three different shades that I tested, courtesy of Ilia Beauty. This is not a sponsored post, however the products were provided to me in PR so that I could try them and give you my thoughts.

Review

Ilia’s new Skin Rewind Complexion stick is touted as a “weightless, firming, and smoothing foundation. It’s a cream formula in a twist up stick packaging.

The packaging has a genius thumb dent, to make the tube easier to grip while applying!

Texture: The stick applies and blends smoothly, zero tugging to blend it into my skin. I really love how smooth this cream formula glides on and how smooth it looks on my skin.

Feel: This is a cream product that contains avocado oil, squalane, and candelillia wax, so you can feel the weight of those ingredients a bit when you first apply. Once it’s blended, it starts to “melt” with the heat of your skin and becomes weightless. After an hour or so, I can not feel it on my skin.

Wear: The Ilia Skin Rewind foundation does last all day on me. It does seem to get a bit shiny in my t-zone, as all cream foundations do on my skin (dry, and maturing).

I set with setting spray, then powder after the setting spray has dried. Throughout the day, I’ll blot with blotting papers or powder as needed. I find myself blotting this slightly more than I do with my liquid foundations, but the same amount as I have to with my other cream foundations.

Look: It truly does have a second skin look. You can apply and build up easily, as I’ve done, to achieve full coverage. Even in natural light, I think it still looks really light and natural.

In this photo below, I have built up 2-3 layers for full coverage.

Application: The Skin Rewind can be applied to your face directly from the applicator. You can blend with your hands or a foundation brush. I tried blending with my hands and the Ilia Complexion Brush.

For this foundation, I preferred the fuller coverage look I got with blending with my fingers. If you like a more sheer look, I recommend the brush.

For me, the Ilia Complexion Brush has blown me away in other areas.

It’s the perfect smaller size to apply or blend cream blush, cream bronzer, or powder under the eyes. I have been searching for a brush this size and finally the Ilia Complexion brush fits the bill!

I have not put it down since it’s arrived. If you have also been searching for a smaller size brush for cream blushes and cream bronzers, you might also love this one. The bristles measure 3/4 of an inch tall and 1/2 an inch wide.

In the photo above, I used this brush to apply the Ilia Multi-Stick in “At Last” to my cheeks.

Overall, I am really impressed with this foundation. It’s a great pick for someone who is selective with what ingredients they like in their beauty products.

The Skin Rewind truly does feel lightweight after and initial “melt-in” period after applying. It looks like a second skin with one layer, but can be built up to the fullest coverage and still look natural.

I also love the shade range, there are 42 shades and they really are a nice range of skin tones and undertones.

The Skin Rewind Complexion Stick is an all-around well done foundation and my favorite base product ever from Ilia Beauty!

  1. Thank you Molly for giving such a great review on this new foundation. I have searched for days looking for a review that is truly helpful. I use Ko Gen Do Moisture foundation in 123 and for the life of me, I cannot figure out what shade would work in the Ilia. I am not nearly as light as you but definitely not full medium either. While my undertone is warm, some brands seem to pull too yellow- not Ko Gen DO. If you have any hints for choosing a good color in this new Ilia foundation I would be grateful!
    Best,
    Billie
