Friendship Friday | Bahamas Edition – Mauri

This year I got to take a very special two-part trip.

I called it the East Coast Baby Tour 2016, because I got to go visit two of my closest friends who both had babies this year.  And let me tell you, it is so fun to see your friends as parents.  Especially since I’ve known both of these friends for 10+ years.

My first stop was to the Bahamas to visit Candace, her husband, and little Miss Reegan.

One of Candace’s friends was wanting to do a boudoir shoot and Candace asked me to do her hair and makeup.  I thought it sounded fun and I hadn’t done a Friendship Friday glam in so long!

After the shoot, Mauri and her husband took us out on a boat ride around these gorgeous, pristine beaches that you can only get to in a boat.  It was unreal.  So serene and pristine.  We docked for a few hours and just swam and relaxed.  My boyfriend and I were the last ones back on the boat.  It was hard to leave that beach.

I’ve seriously never seen water so beautiful in my whole life.

Mauri Friendship Friday Before and After

MAKEUP |  We wanted to go dewy for the skin and add a gold/bronze glow to the eyes and cheeks.  Mauri had referenced Charlize Theron’s bronze-y Dior ad.  We both loved the look (it’s actually what I’d been planning for her!) so we gave it a go.

The first thing I had noticed about Mauri was her sparkling blue eyes and gorgeous smile.  Bronze is the perfect eyeshadow shade to play up blue eyes.

Mauri had some sun spots/melasma  that she wanted to make sure were covered.  I decided to use the IT Cosmetics CC Cream to give her dewy, but fuller coverage.

I really love this product for a fresher look on skin.  I applied it with my hands first, then finished the look with a beauty blender.  The trick to this CC cream it to only use one pump to cover the entire face.  We used shade Medium.

Concealer was the Amazing Cosmetics full coverage concealer.  You need the tiniest drop – literally the size of a pin head – for full coverage.

I also used: Lorac eyeshadows for shimmer and Viseart eyeshadows in Neutral Matte 01 for the matte shades.  I used the Charlotte Tilbury Rock N’ Kohl eyeliner in Barbarella Brown because it stays all day long, even on the waterline.

For her cheek highlight, I used Becca Cosmetics Liquid Shimmer in Opal.  Hot tip: get the travel size, the product is so pigmented that a tiny drop is all you need and even the travel size tube lasts forever.  The liquid version gives a beautiful, dewy look that still looks natural.  I used Becca’s blush in Flowerchild.  It’s the perfect peachy-pink flush.

I filled in Mauri’s brows with the new Benefit pencil in shade 3.  I typically would have used a slightly lighter shade, but I had to pack everything in my carry-on, so I just used a very light hand and loved the natural finish.

We set the whole look with Laura Mercier Translucent powder, my favorite because it gives skin an airbrushed look.  If you use this Wayne Goss brush to apply it, you will lose your mind with how good it looks.  Air brushed.  I finished the look with some setting spray and the makeup lasted through a day of shooting, swimming, and dinner and drinks until past midnight.  J’dore setting spray.

HAIR |

Mauri has the cutest natural curls I’ve ever seen!  I loved her chin-length bob.

But she had wanted to try some longer hair and looser curls for the photos.  Which I get!  Photoshoots are a great time to try looks outside your go-to style.

I smoothed out her hair using my ghd Curve 1.25″ curling iron as a flat iron, but left a natural bounce in the hair, especially around the hair line.  I wanted her hair to still have life and body, so I didn’t totally straighten the hair framing her face.

Then, I added a loose wave with the same curling iron.  I borrowed a hair spray from Candace, because I couldn’t bring one on the airplane.  I can’t remember what we used!  But I just misted a little bit between the layers of hair, so the curls would hold up for the day.

I used girlgetglamorousHAIR extensions in Beach Day {shade 14/22} to match her blonde hair.  We used a full pack, 160 grams double drawn hair, in the 16″ length.  Mauri loved the hair so much she asked to keep it in all day long!

This was such a wonderful trip.  I’m so grateful for every moment of it.
