Purple Eye Shadow and Liner | makeup hack

Purple is one of those lovely colors that looks good with just about every eye color, skin tone, and hair color.

But it can feel bold, which I know a lot of us might not be wanting to go for every day.

My last post featured {this} gorgeous purple eye shadow.  I listed a ton of dupes for it at every price range, but I know buying bold colors can still feel like a waste because you don’t think you’ll use it as much as a neutral shade.

So here is the world’s easiest hack for purple liner, a trick I love as a makeup artist:

For a lighter and softer finish:

  • Blend purple powders with with black or brown powder shadows and watch your eyes light up.  It both intensifies the shade of your eyes and softens the darker shadow against your skin.

For a more intense finish:

  • Apply your purple cream product, and again, either go over with a brown or black cream product, or apply a brown or black powder over the cream.  The color of the powder will be intensified and come out much richer than a powder on it’s own. It will also last much longer without fading.  It will have the same effect on your eyes and skin tone as mixing the two powders but really deepens the colors.  I recommend this for flash photography.

That’s it!  This entire post could basically be one word: mix.  (But that wouldn’t be as much fun if it were only one word, ha!)

Easy pea-sy.  A great way to make sure you use that purple liner or shadow in your drawer and  add a sparkle to your eyes.

Here are a few pics, I used Pixi liner in Plum for my liner and went over it with the #8 shade (lightest brown) from the Viseart 01 Neutral Matte eyeshadow palette.  As always, you can use what you already own, I just tell you what I use so you have the exact shades/tones.

I really feel like I can’t see the purple at all once the brown is applied.  Love this look, it’s easy and my go-to for simple makeup and  it puts all your products to work!

  1. Another great article! Yes, I use violet eyeliner, and very few people notice the color of the liner. I just get tons of compliments on my green eyes. Thanks for more great ideas!
