Maybelline Colorsensational Lipstick Neon Red vs. Pop of Cherry

Remember the first time you realized not everything is as it seems?  When the big, burly biker guy you were scared of at happy hour turned out to be a teddy bear with a heart of gold who has ten cats and loves weeding his mother’s garden for her on his days of from being a nurse.  Well, Maybelline’s colorsensational red lipsticks are my biker man.

To be honest, I’ve never been a fan of red lipstick.  It’s always seemed too harsh to me, too “makeup-y.”  …Buuuut I have always been a fan of “limited edition.”  The thought that a makeup might not be accessible EVER AGAIN after it’s sold out is a very strong selling point for me.  Well done, Marketers.  Thus, my makeup closet overflowing with neglected purple lipsticks and canary yellow polish.  “Limited Edition” is how you get me to try red lipstick.

I was at CVS when I saw the most beautiful coral blush from Maybelline’s Color Goes Electric Spring 2013 LIMITED EDITION colors.  Yes, Limited Edition.  I got two of the coral burst blushes and picked up the Pop of Cherry lipstick.  I wanted to see if any of the reds in their permanent line looked close in shade to the Pop of Cherry.  I found the Neon Red colorsensational lipstick which looks almost identical in the tube.

I kept thinking, “Why are you buying red lipstick, you hate red lipstick!”  But, guys, something kept me moving forward.  I had to try them.  It was out of my control.  Little did I know, life, as I knew it was about to change.

I came home and swatched the colors and was so surprised to see that even though in the tube they look almost the same, the Neon Red is more of an orange red, while the Pop of Cherry is more of a raspberry red shade.

I really, really love both these shades.  Overall, the lipstick is light and the color stays true for a couple of hours without touch ups.  The shades are both gorgeous for different reasons.  I love that the Neon Red is so bright, but not aggressve or cold in that way red lipsticks can be.  I wore the Pop of Cherry to the gym the other day (YOLO, right?)  and the most beautiful gay man I have ever seen with muscles, muscles, muscles told me I looked like a beautiful doll.  That’s enough for me to wear a lipstick twice.

  1. I’m truly enjoying the design and layout of your website. It’s a very easy on the
eyes which makes it much more pleasant for me
to come here and visit more often. Did you hire out a designer to create your theme?
    Superb work!

  2. I’m loving these lippies on you. I want to see a breakdown of your foundation routine because it always looks so flawless yet like you’re not wearing a ton of makeup at the same time. Also facial moisturizers.
