Holiday Gift Guide | Picks at Every Budget

I have a love/hate relationship with holiday gift lists.

I always get a serious case of the “I Wants.”  Which I don’t love, as I prefer to appreciate everything I already have.

On the other hand, I love love love seeing other people’s picks.

I could look at other people’s hauls for-ev-er.  Why are they so endlessly fascinating?

I have been in the process of coming out my my own line of clip-in hair extensions, called girlgetglamorousHAIR, (with amazing shades for redheads!) and so that has been the main focus of my time and budget lately.

They come out SO soon (update: You can shop them now at www.girlgetglamorousHAIR.com!) and I am going to do a full post when I have the exact launch date, etc.  So this year will be mostly window shopping for me, but for a good reason.  A great reason.  Hot dang, I can’t wait for you guys to feel these extensions.  Silk in yo’ hands.

Okay, onto The Finds!  All great to give or receive…

The “Actually Really Great” gifts for $5-$25:

I think these are really good picks if you have the kind of friends where you guys don’t really “do” gifts.  They would also be good stocking stuffers if you are the type who goes all-out.  They are high quality, so you are still giving a really nice item, that happens to be at an affordable price.  As opposed to giving junk for the sake of giving something.

  1. Amazing Flameless Candle, ‘Dot Monogram’, $22.  I could never give someone a candle before, I know they smell beautiful, but they are just too unsafe (in my opinion).  I love this flameless version to give a gentle glow to the room.  The monogram is a nice touch.  Monogram always says to me “I thought about giving you this gift before I got in the car to drive here.”
  2. Charlotte Tilbury Lip Cheat in ‘Pillowtalk’, $22.  I have a friend who buys this once a month and uses it all over as her daily lipstick.  It’s the perfect natural-but-enhanced lip shade.
  3. Living Proof ‘Prime’ hair primer serum, $20.  This is my absolutely can-not-live-without hair product.  It weightlessly sets your hair and repels dirt.  I style my hair once or twice a week and never have to touch up in between.  My hair used to be fried around my hairline, because I was always touching up the hair that got frizzy around my face with a flat iron.  Then I found Prime, and no more touch ups, healthier hair, and a 1 oz sample lasted me two years.
  4. ColourPop Cosmetics, everything, $5-$8.  I’m not kidding when I say everything.  I love the lipsticks, lip liners, sheer lipsticks, eye liners, gel liners, and cream bronzers.  They also have some great holidays sets, with mini sizes of the lip liners and lipsticks all in one tube.  5 amazing shades for $20.  This is a great line, super high quality products, so affordable, no toxic chemicals (most affordable lines have a ton), they cost less than most drugstore brands.  Their shipping is lightening fast now too, and still free over $30. {post}
  5.  Monogram Mugs from Anthropologie, $8 each.  There are two style, crisp white, and bright florals.  I have owned and loved both.  I like to gift these with a box of Tazo Passion tea.  It’s insanely good tea and these mugs are so adorable.  See my thoughts on monogramming above.  It’s the ultimate, “yes, this was actually purchased just for you.”  These mugs are priced right at $8 and nice quality.  I’ve gotten them as gifts and thought it was so considerate, and also given them a bunch.  They are always well-received.
  6. Sinful Colors Nail Polish, $2 each.  I love these polishes, actually an unreal amount.  Sometimes the darker colors aren’t pigmented enough, but the light and medium shades are always great and apply so smoothly.  For $2 each, you can’t go wrong.  You could give someone ten polishes for $20, or add one to a stocking.  I miss having a stocking.  Someone should tell you that about being an adult.  Like, “kid, don’t rush going through that stocking.  In 20 years you’ll walk out on Christmas morning and wonder why the hell there’s only coffee.”
  7. Sugar Paper for Target, $6-$15.  Last year I bought the 6″ x 9″ monthly planner with gold dots on the front and it has been the only calendar I have religiously used.  Every month is filled up.  I don’t know how they made it so dang functional, but it’s so nicely planned out that I want to be organized and it’s just the right size to always carry with me in my purse.  I picked up a few of the blush colored items this year: the life changing 6″x 9″planner ($8), the documents holder ($13, fits the new macbook size), and the padfolio ($13).  They are so beautiful, the color makes my heart leap.  I also just can’t get over how well designed they are.  I like to start my days now by checking the calendar and seeing what’s scheduled for the day.  I am a new woman.

The “Treat Yo Self” picks, $35-$80:

Or in this case, your friend/family/significant other.

  1. Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar Bronze & Glow, $68.  I have been lusting after this contour and highlight set for a year.  It’s supposed to be the most natural contour and gorgeous highlight.  Tons of my Instagram blogger friends call it their Holy Grail contour shade.  This set includes a brush and her brushes are supposed to also be great.  I would use the brush to apply powder to my t-zone.
  2.  Fran Denim ‘Sarah’ Skinny jeans, my fav is Black Twill, $68.  I did a full post on this jeans a little while back and still love them.  This black pair are in constant rotation in my life.  You’ll never meet a stretchier denim.  My “girlgetglamorous” code is good for 10% off your whole purchase, including sale items.
  3.  Deborah Lippmann ‘Undressed’ nail polish set, $34.  This set includes six smaller sizes (I have a few of these they are generously sized, I’ll never get through the bottles).  I loved that this set is all soft neutral shades.  Her formulas are the best in the biz.  The are thin, apply easily, never streak, somehow two coats are always enough, no toxic chemicals, and last a week before chipping.
  4.  Lorac ‘Real Life to Red Carpet’ makeup set, $39, value of $111.  I just used this set in this tutorial and am still obsessed with it.  It’s an insane deal, the pigmentation in each product is so intense and beautiful, and the products wear incredibly well over a long day.  Lorac makes such incredible makeup, it’s a brand I can’t live without.
  5.  Kevyn Aucoin Sensual Skin Enhancer, $48.  I’ve been meaning to try this foundation/concealer hybrid forever.  I really want to test it on myself then maybe add it to my kit.  It’s supposed to be a game changer for flawless skin.  Applied on its own, it can be used as a concealer.  Over moisturizer, you can sheer it out to a beautiful foundation.  I am shade 5 in case you are close to me and need help understanding the shades.  I might have swatched this foundation 15 billion times.
  6. Kevyn Aucoin The Contour Book, $65, $226 value.  I know I just posted about this in the Sephora picks post, but honestly, I bought it and it’s worth a second mention.  It includes 4 full size contour and highlight creams and powders (normally $44 each) and 4 full size eyeshadows.  I’ve been using the Starlight powder as a blush.  I really like this palette.  Great deal, incredible products!

The “Yeah, I’m In The Corner Office Now” finds, $100-$300:

Time to get your swag on, my friend.  That view of the bay never gets old, right?

  1.  Tom Ford Lip Color Set, $208.  This set includes four full size tubes of Spanish Pink, Pink Dusk, Blush Nude, and Casablanca, all housed in a very chic box.  If someone handed me this box, I would honestly faint.  These are four of the top selling shades from Tom Ford, they are all gorgeous natural shades that are very wearable for every day.  It’s the same price as purchasing four individual Tom Ford lipsticks, but in a chic as hell box that might make a lady pass out.
  2. ghd Heat Styling Tools, $225-$245.  I know, I know.  I’m too crazy for this brand.  I just love everything from them so much I want to shout it from the rooftops.  I’m in LOVE. {post: flat irons/dryer/brush} {post: curling irons}
  3.  Gucci 56mm Retro Sunglasses, $186, normally $310.  Mamma Mia, these are beautiful and 40% off.  I wish I never wore really nice sunglasses, because they really do feel like they protect better.  I think this pair is SO classic looking and chic.

The “I Just Sold My 1st App for 100 Million” picks, $300-$3,000 because… $100 Million Dollars:

Can someone teach me how to develop apps?  Seriously.

  1.  Chloe Medium ‘Faye’ Shoulder Bag, $1,950.00.  I first saw this purse on Instagram and thought “Mother Mary, that is beauty.”  Not, “that is beautiful.”  Rather, that is what actual beauty looks like in the form of an object.  There is also a smaller version that looks like the perfect travel bag.
  2. Burberry ‘Baynard’ Tote, $1,095.  A classic!  I love the roominess of this tote, the clean lines of the handles and bag shape, and how timeless the design is.  And you can’t go wrong with black.
  3. Givenchy ‘Small Pandora Pure’ Pebbled Leather Shoulder Bag, $2,695.  Sensing a theme here?  When I sell my first app, I’m going bananas for handbags.  I actually was looking for the Givenchy doctor bag, which is also gorgeous, when I ran across this beauty.  The color and shape are so appealing to me.  This bag looks expensive, but casual.  Not trying too hard.
  4.  YSL ‘Mini Monogram” bag, $1,550.  This was another bag I saw on Instagram and immediately searched out.  It’s the perfect shape and size for going out.  This would be a great evening bag and looks timeless.
  5. Stuart Weitzman ‘Lowland’ Over the Knee Boots, $798.  I have coveted from afar the 5050 style for the past five years, I think these are the chicest boots and love that they are (almost) flats but also over the knee in a very subtly sexy way.  I’m very obsessed.  I love that this Lowland style also adds that cute tie at the back.
  6. Tom Ford ‘Private Blend’ lipstick and perfume set, $324.  Perfume created exclusively for this set, no big deal.  Ugh, J/K big deal!  I love Tom Ford perfumes, I wish I snagged one while working the show last year!  I did however, get the lipstick in Bruised Plum that is part of this set and is stunning on.  This set also includes another lipstick in Ruby Rush, which looks like a nice classic red.

Not gonna lie, this was a fun list to write.  I’m in Swag-zilla mode.  It was really fun to dig for finds, even though I’m still currently living in Hoarders Paradise, trying to get prepped for the extension launch.  You would not believe the trips I am taking to the charity drop off.  I felt like I needed to clean my life out before they launch and I mean business.  It’s crazy up in here right now.

  1. You, my darling, have been an inspiration! I have, over the last couple of months gone fro blonde colouring to strawberry blonde and red. I hated last red at the salon but they rectified it this week! Here in England I’ve bought several clip in ginger pony tail pieces but cannot wait to see and review yours! Your top tip of Tom Ford Abandon shade lipstick was rather extravagant but totally inspired! I would never have stepped out of my comfort zone from blonde to red without you. You, girlie, rock it like a redhead! Can’t thank you enough! x

    • Victoria,

You are too sweet. Thank you!! I’m so excited for the hair to come out. Just beyond excited actually! You’ve also reminded me that I need to wear my Tom Ford Abandon more. I tend to save it for “special” days, but isn’t every day special? 🙂 I love that you took the plunge from blonde to strawberry blonde!!
