As I write this, Los Angeles is going through a 100+ degree heatwave and I am miserable. Â My apartment is very beautiful but full of “old world charm” … a.k.a. no A/C.
But let’s flash back to a week ago when we were actually feeling West Coast style fall temperatures.
The seasons in Los Angeles are much more mild than the ones I experienced in my Upstate NY upbringing, but I look forward to them nonetheless.  I’ve been in LA 13 years now, which blows my mind.  Sometimes it feels SO long ago that I moved out here and other times it feels like I blinked and here we are.
One thing I’ve adapted to is not having as many heavy winter clothes.  I bring a lot more layers with me and only really wear jackets in December and January or when I’m closer to the beach, where it does get breezier once the sun sets.
This time of year, with the warmer days fading into cooler nights, I follow this basic pattern when I get dressed: Â shirt, shorts, booties or sneakers (for work) and a lightweight wrap sweater. Â The sweater has to be able to fit in my purse.
Here are my favorite items I’ve been wearing all summer and the wrap I’ve been wearing non-stop. Â If you follow me on Instagram @girlgetglamorous, you’ve probably seen them before. Â My summer and fall casual outfit must-haves.
______________
Shorts | Levi’s 501 Rolled Hem Shorts, $68.
I am OBSESSED with these rolled hem shorts from Levi’s. Â They are affordable, fit perfectly, and have that baggy look around the leg that I adore. Â It’s so hard for me to find shorts I love and these came with me on every trip this summer and were my go-to everyday shorts. Â I might even buy a back up pair, because I truly can’t live without them. Â Buy a size or two up for added comfort and bagginess. Â Levi’s do tend to run small. Â Limited sizing available:Â Nordstrom | Levi’s
Booties | Jeffery Campbell Taggart Bootie in Taupe, $177.
These boots were a major splurge for me. Â I can’t remember the last time I paid over $100 for a pair of shoes. Â But I noticed that I wear the same five pairs of shoes over and over again until they have holes that literally can’t be patched up again (I’ve checked.) Â So a great looking, comfortable pair of shoes gets an INSANE amount of mileage in my closet and the cost-per-wear becomes nothing. Â These are the perfect neutral shade for me and the cut outs make them unique. Â These are great for fall, spring, and summer dressing. Â I love them with jeans, crops, shorts and dresses. Â They go with everything!
available: Nordstrom
Shirt | Frontline Artistry, $25.
A loose T will get you major mileage in my book.  I like them to be baggy, but somehow still a little fitted, and soft as heck.  I love this “Whiskey and Winged Liner” t-shirt, from Frontline Artistry, a clothing line for makeup artists.  I think they need a Rosé and Winged Liner shirt next, ha!  I’m wearing an XL here, I like my shirts very loose, especially for work.  Splendid and Vince also make great loose shirts but they are a bit pricier.
Wrap Sweater | Billabong Flannel Kimono, $55.
I first saw this during the Nordstrom Anniversary sale and had to have it. Â It’s been one of the best purchases ever. Â I wear it everywhere and it’s always in my purse. Â It’s great for movie dates (the theaters are SO cold!) and for work when the A/C is on full blast. Â I even wore it over my bathing suits all summer and got non-stop compliments. Â Â Â Nordstrom | Amazon
I usually wear these $20 gold hoop earrings with this outfit and I’m wearing my new favorite lipstick, the formula is so soft and hydrating, Hourglass lipstick in Grace.  The perfect shade for Strawberry Blondes.
And when it gets even a little cooler, change out the shorts with the best skinny jeans on earth and you are good. to. go.

What color combo did you use for these pictures?
Hi Joni,
I used the last formula I posted on youtube. It’s faded about 3 weeks here and I used a root cover up powder at my roots.
🙂

My sister works for Billabong and I am always surprised how much of their stuff I LOVE, even though mentally I think I am too old/big for it.
Looking good! Can’t wait for real fall.
Outfit looks awesome and I love the color of your hair now. Kind of like what I want to go for but can never attain. BTW, former New Yorker here too 🙂
Thank you to both compliments, so nice of you! And NY in the house!!
LOVE the look and feeling a bit bad that it’s not sweater weather for you! Adore that kimono, currently stalking it now.
Thank you, Megan! Yes, it’s been a week of 100+ degree days here. But the kimono still gets packed into my purse in hopes of cooler nights, ha ha! It’s one of my favorite pieces of clothing of all time. I can’t believe how much I wear it!
