I’m a Strawberry Blonde. Yay! You’re a Strawberry Blonde. Yay! Now what makeup shades should we wear??? I’ve have had every color of hair from platinum blonde to jet black. I have found that I need really different makeup shades from color to color, even within the shades of red I have tried.
Strawberry Blonde hair just feels like the color I’m supposed to be though, so I’ve really be an A+ student figuring out the most flattering makeup shades. I have tested products, I have swatched shades, I have learned.
I have fair-to-light skin, strawberry blonde hair, and blue eyes.

BLUSH
Peach |
E.L.F. Studio Contouring Blush + Bronzing Powder, $4, in shade St. Lucia. The blush takes the cake! It’s the perfect light peach and makes your skin glow. A perfect peach for Strawberry Blondes. The bronzer is a bit too shimmery for my face, but the perfect shade and shimmer for my collarbones and the top of my shoulders.
Milani Baked Blush, $8, in shade Luminoso. This is a universally flattering soft peach shade with a satin finish. This has such a natural, pretty glow! This formula is wonderful, it goes on sheer and smooth.
Rosy |
E.L.F. Hydrating Aqua Beauty Blush + Bronzer, $6, in shade Pink Beige. Another great duo from e.l.f. brand. These have such a beautiful, second skin like texture. The pink beige has a gorgeous rosy tint. You can tap into your cheeks with fingers or a stippling brush.
BRONZER
NYX Matte Bronzer, $9, in shade Light. One of my favorite bronzers. I love a matte bronzer, they are perfect for your face when you are an adult lady, such as myself. This one is never streaky and THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for having a light shade.
Physician’s Formula pH Matchmaker Bronzer, $15, in shade Light Bronzer. Again, let’s hear a round of applause for a light bronzer. This bronzer has some shimmer, but not the kind that annoys me. (I’m picky!) It just makes my face look brighter and slightly deeper. Great when my foundation is looking a bit too light. I reach for this so often!
EYE PRODUCTS
Brown |
Covergirl Eye Enhancers Single Eyeshadow, in shade Brown Smolder. This stuff is LEGIT. It’s one of my all-time favorite shadows. I like it best worn all the way around my liner in a super thin line. It blurs the liner a little bit and makes your eyes pop. This is the perfect shade of brown, it always looks natural against my hair. It also can make a great subtle smokey eye.
Physician’s Formula Eye Booster Eyeliner, in shade Deep Brown. One of the best liquid liners I have found, and the only one at this price I like. The tip is super fine for a perfect line. The deep matte brown shade is amazing for daytime makeup.
Plum |
I feel like Plum is really overlooked as a flattering color, but it’s one of my all-time favorite looks. It looks so stunning with Strawberry Blonde hair!
NYX Nude Matte Eyeshadow single, $5, in shade Skinny Dip. I love to do a thin line with this shadow around my liner. It’s so pretty and just deep enough of a plum. For a night out, it makes a great smokey eye. Insanely gorgeous!!
Pixi Endless Silky Eye Pen eyeliner, $12, in shade Deep Plum. This is a great pencil. Really creamy and pigmented and a lovely plum shade with no shimmer, which can be hard to find. Great high end quality!
Army Green |
A great daytime alternative to brown and army green looks so beautiful next to strawberry blonde hair.
Sephora Collection Contour Eyeliner, $10, in T-Rex. These eyeliners are so smooth and creamy. This is a pretty deep army green shade.
Inner Corner Highlighter |
L’Oreal Silkissime Eyeliner, $8, in shade Highlighter. More on this wonder stick HERE. This is a great example of a blush pink shade that works with strawberry blonde hair. Some pinks clash, but this compliments.
E.L.F. No Budge Shadow Stick, $4, in Perfect Pearl. I use this shadow stick on the inner corners of my eye and under my brow bone when I want to mimic a candlelight glow.
Brows |
Maybelline Twin Brow Pencils, $3 for two pencils, in shade Light Brown. I used to use Auburn, but it was too hard to find. I tried the Light Brown shade on a whim and it’s perfect for strawberry blondes! Even better than the Auburn. Just warm enough to look natural with the red tones in your hair, but with enough brown to look like a real color. Yes, huge win!
LIPS
Peach & Nude |
Revlon Super Lustrous lip gloss, $8, in Super Natural, worn over Maybelline Colorsensational The Buffs Lipstick, $8, in Nude Lust. The peachy tones in the gloss makes the nude wearable for pale skin.
Red |
Yes, Yes, Yes! Redheads can wear red. Red is so flattering against the hint of blonde in strawberry blonde hair.
Maybelline Colorsensational Lipstick, $6, Neon Red. A bright and fun red for summer.
Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick, $8, in shade Love That Red. A perfect, classic red.
NYX Extra Creamy Round Lipstick, $4, in shade Chaos. A stunning deep, dark red. Love this for the holidays and winter weather.
Raspberry |
Another overlooked color for strawberry blondes! Raspberry is so pretty on. I swear every time I wear this lipstick people tell me I look the best I’ve ever looked. THAT’S HOW YOU WIN MY HEART, FOLKS. Not trying to be cute, jut trying to be real.
Maybelline Colorsensational Lipstick, $6, in shade Pink Grandeur. This was a limited edition shade, sorry to recommend a limited edition, but this is really special shade and I hope Maybelline brings it back into regular rotation. The most flattering raspberry ever.
Rose |
Yep, you can wear rose. I just try to go light with it and make sure the shades are more rose than pink.
Covergirl LipPerfection Lipstick, $7.50, in shade Darling. This shade is truly “my lips but better” to me. It plumps up the color and makes my lips look fuller.
L’Oreal Colour Riche Caresse Aqua Lacquer Lip Stain, $10, in shade Rose On and On. Ok, the name could be shortened, but the rose is very pretty and natural on. The gloss also feels light.
Ultimate Lip |
I don’t know how to categorize these two shades, they aren’t totally a nude or totally a rose. But they are my two MOST USED shades in my whole lipstick drawer.
L’Oreal lipstick, $9, in shade Jennifer’s Nude. The perfect pinky beige. So flattering on.
NYX Lip Butter, $5, in shade Tiramisu. On the website, this looks like a semi-terrifying shade of brown. Trust me, your lips will look perfect. Just perfect. If you buy one lip product, have it be this color.
Lipliners |
Revlon Colorstay lipliner, $8, in Nude and Rose. These liners are very natural and flattering on. They also last hours!
Foundations |
Obviously, these will change from person to person based on your undertones, but I have found that L’Oreal foundations (I like Lumi) have a great range of lighter shades and don’t oxidize on your skin (look great at first then turn orange a couple hours later). Also, I know the Sephora’s own spray foundation isn’t technically a drugstore brand, but I have used it on three of my super light and fair friends and it looked amazing on each of them. It’s a very high quality foundation. For BB cream, Garnier Oil Control wins. It’s super affordable and has the best coverage! I wear it under my foundation as a primer on days I want full coverage makeup or on it’s own on more casual makeup days.

I've recently turned 54, been a natural redhead, mostly strawberry blonde all my life, but when I had my son 20 years ago, my color became less red and mousy looking, so being a semi retired hairdresser and hating the pull through the caps or foils part of coloring, I also have very long hair now, which my new hubby loves btw! Anyway, I've tried all boxed straw/blds but nothing worked until John Frieda mouse color, which is the best way of putting on color by yourself, hardly any mess. But they have discontinued this shade in the stores, I have no idea why? But it really is nice, but I would like to be a bit redder, though, the hub prefers it the way it is, lol... I'm going to try your wella colors suggestions, but go a little less on the Tahitian red. Hoping this works for now?
I apply to ends about every 2 applications and not just roots in the Summer months, but every 3 to 4 the rest of the year. I'm happy with the low smell of this color and ease of application, I have thick hair and need 1 to 2 boxes of color. 1 for roots, always have some left and 2 when I'm coloring all over, usually have just a bit left then.
The coconut oil is genius, I have been using other oils! Thank you for all the makeup tips, I e also found that a dark blue on outer corners of the yes and a peachy brown or rosy brown and dark blood wine red lips is great on fair redheads like us! Thanks for the awesome tips! You are a beauty! Would love your skin care tips also, but I have acne prone skin and its oily.

Thank you, Laura! Glad this was helpful. I saw that mousse formula is stores, but never tried it. It did looks very easy to use. Hopefully they'll come out with more shades. I just touched up my roots the other night and the coconut oil makes a huge difference! I was all out last time I colored and skipped it, my hair looked so much healthier this time with the coconut oil. This is a great time of year for that blood wine lipstick shade!!

I've been dyeing my hair for years and originally i had chestnut/brunnette coloured hair. Today, i used a hair dye remover to get rid of all of the layers of hair dye i have used over the years therefore revealing my natural hair colour for the first time in 6 years. Im not suddenly blonde/strawberry blonde/ ginger undertones and i was worried that my makeup wouod no longer be okay (as i always dyed my hair blacks/reds/blues and purples) but, after seeing this, youve helped a lot and now i realise i can still use the majority of my makeup.
