PUR Cosmetics Strobe | Highlighting Kit: review + swatches

Momma Mia.

These Pur Cosmetics strobe palettes are My Everything.

I have not put them down since they came into my life.  I can’t remember the last time I was SO fully enamored with a product from day one.  I honestly think the last time I was so crazy about something was when I finally got the ggg hair extensions perfect.

These palette trios are just so beautiful to look at and then when you put them on…fainting.  Highlighters are my makeup weakness.

The Facts

Each palette contains 3 cream highlighters, a light shade, pink or peach shade, and a bronze shade.  The palette is generously sized at .5 oz or 15 grams total.

The PUR palettes retail for $34 each.  That breaks down to just over $11 for each shade in the palette.

For size comparison, the beloved Becca cream highlighting compacts are .19 oz and retail for $38 each.

The Shades

The Moonlight Glow contains cooler toned highlights and the Sun-Kissed Glow has warmer tones.

Moonlight shades: Twilight (light beige w/slight yellow tones), Lunar (light pink), and Eclipse (light bronze).

Sun-Kissed shades:  Aurora (light beige), Solar (light peach), and Dusk (medium bronze).

So far, I’ve been using the Sun Kissed shades daily.  I will probably lean more on the Moonlight Glow shades in the winter, but right now, with my faux tan poppin’, the warmer shades in the Sun-Kissed palette are incredible.

I’ve only used these on myself, so I can’t speak for how they look on other skin tones.  However, PUR Cosmetics has a great range of products for every skin tone, so I think these will probably be lovely for a variety of women, from fair to deep.

Application

I have been using the palette as my highlight and blush.  I apply the beige shade, “Aurora,” on the high of my cheekbones and down the center of my nose. (If you are confused by that, literally put your fingers on your cheekbone, right below your eye and gently press until you feel the bone.  That’s where you apply cheek highlight.)

Then I use the bronze shade, “Dusk,” as my blush, keeping it an inch away from my nose.  On the top apple of my cheek, I blend in a little of the peach, “Solar,” shade.  The peach is so dang pretty I swear you’ll lose your mind!  I’ve never seen any shade like it.

I apply the highlight to my cheekbones with my fingers and then blend with a damp beauty blender.  For the shades that I use as blush, I apply those with a small stipple brush.  I love how for fair skin, this combo gives a hint of color but doesn’t overwhelm the face.

You can see my technique for applying these highlighters as a blush this {this} video tutorial.

Texture // Finish

Like most cream products, I find that if I dig in and mix the product up it is much creamier and easier to work with.

Wipe down the thin bottom side of a eyeshadow makeup brush with alcohol or use a clean metal makeup spatula to mix.  You’ll be so happy you did with any cream makeup products, they work a zillion times better.

What I love about this formula is that is sets itself.  Generally with creams, I have to set with a powder afterwards.  These creams dry after application and blending and set themselves to a soft finish that isn’t sticky.  Heaven!

The finish is a gorgeous, true highlight with no glitter.  It has a micro sheen that looks absolutely delightful in the skin.  Delightful.

Wear

I set everything in my entire life with setting spray, so these highlights lasted until I washed them off.  I haven’t tried them without setting spray, because I honestly feel like I’m wasting my makeup now if I don’t use spray.

Ingredients

PUR cosmetics aims to create products that are good for your skin and improve it over time.  These highlighters contain an age defying “Ceretin Complex.”  I like knowing that my skin is actually improving by wearing makeup, instead of getting clogged.  The company is eco-friendly and cruelty-free.  All their formulas are created in the USA.

A lot of their products are mineral based.  The full list of ingredients are {here}

Overall

I seriously can’t remember the last time a product was such a home run for me.  This product is a great value, the colors are amazing, and the formula rocks.  This is a must have product for me now.  That peach shade gives me life!!!

Overall, I give the PUR Cosmetics strobe palettes an A+ and 10/10.

They are available online at ULTA.
