My A.M. Skincare Routine (age 39) | Oil Cleansing + Nano Current

I’m so happy to share my updated morning skincare routine!  Since my last post a couple of years ago, I’ve added at-home nano current facials to my morning routine and also changed how I oil cleanse my skin.

I have to say, at 39 years old, this is the happiest I’ve ever been with my skin.

I switch between two different routines, the 1st has a nano current at-home facial with amazing “better than botox” results and a 2nd oil-cleansing routine that has totally cleared the blackheads around my nose.  I really like both routines, so I alternate days to get the best results of both.

Details below and in the video.  I hope you enjoy!

ROUTINE #1 | NANO CURRENT FACIALS

Step 1 | Lip Balm

This Jack Black lip balm is the only lip balm that I’ve used for years.  Once you try it, you will not want to use anything else.

Make sure to buy the Shea Butter and Vitamin E version.  It has SPF and is under $8.

Step 2 | Skin Prep

I get the best results from my nano current facial when I start with a clean face.

I cleanse my skin with Koh Gen Do Cleansing Spa/Micellar Water on a gauze pad before I start the facial.  I make sure to dab the gauze on my face, instead of dragging it across my skin.

Step 3 | Nano Current Face-Lifting Facial

These ZIIP nano current facials have made a huge difference in my skin tone and the lifting of muscles in my face.

I do the facials while I am having my coffee and checking emails, so they really don’t add any time to my morning routine.

The ZIIP facials have transformed my skin over the past two years!

My under eye area is tighter and the fine lines have disappeared, my forehead is even smoother than when I got botox once 4 years ago, and my jawline is back.

I posted a full review and my results in this post.  Here is the full review.

Step 4 | Rinse + Cleanse

After I’m done with my facial I’ll hop in the shower to rinse all the gel off.

Then I wash with Kate Somerville Cream cleaner or DHC Face Wash Powder.

These are both really gentle and rich cleaners. I try to choose products that are as gentle as they can be on my skin, while still be effective.

Step 5 | Toner

I use the DHC CoQ10 “lotion” as my toner.  The name lotion doesn’t accurately describe the texture, it’s more of a water-like consistency.

In Japan, where DHC is from, these lotions are considered a liquid moisturizer. We don’t really have an equivalent product in the US. You apply this first, then a serum, and then a cream moisturizer, to lightly layer moisture into your skin, instead of using one heavier moisturizer.

Most days, I let the coQ10 lotion double as my serum because this toner has such great ingredients.  Specifically, I love that it has sodium hyaluronate (a form of hyaluronic acid) which works to visibly plump skin.

Because of these ingredients, it works best if applied while your skin is still damp. I apply right after I dry my face off with a towel.  This helps keep the moisture in your skin.

I tip my face back and apply right from the bottle to my skin (face, neck and chest).  I pat the toner on with my fingers, no cotton pad, to try and lessen the amount of physical exfoliation that my skin gets.

When I use this toner, my skin looks brighter and more dense.

Step 6 | Serum

This serum, I swear to you, works overnight to plump fine lines.

I’ve been using Extra Concentrate on-and-off since my mid 20’s and it’s one of the best serums I have ever used.

I also love The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid, NIOD Pure Hyaluronic Acid, Bioderma Hydro, and Glow Recipe Plum Plumping serums.

Make sure to apply your serum to your neck, chest, and around your lips also! This really helps with my dry skin at the center of my neck (“turkey neck”) and the fine lines around my lips.

Step 7 | Eye Cream

I’ve done a full post on this one here.  I’ve been using the DHC CoQ10 eye cream for around five years now.

I still remember looking at the skin around my eyes about three weeks after I started using this eye cream and couldn’t believe the difference. The skin around my eyes was noticeably brighter and plumper.

Over the years, I have tried other eye creams, just to be open minded, but always come back to the CoQ10.  It has the perfect amount of hydration and lays perfectly under eye makeup.

Step 8 | Face Lotion with SPF

I discovered the Jack Black Double Duty SPF 20 face moisturizer on a whim at the Hard Rock Casino in Las Vegas 3+ years ago and haven’t used anything else since.

You know those little shops inside the hotel that sell shampoo and toothpaste when you forget yours?  I was browsing one day while waiting for Darius and picked up this travel set to try.

Needless to say, it was a pleasant surprise to find such an amazing moisturizer when I was least expecting it.

It sinks in right away, lays perfectly under foundation (wow!), and has SPF 20.  I honestly rarely go outside (as I work from home most days), so that is enough SPF for me on an average day. I do wear a separate sunblock if I’ll be outside.

I buy the jumbo sets and keep one for myself and give one to Darius.  He loves it too and tells me when he needs more “of that face stuff” – ha!

Step 9 | Sunscreen

If I am going to be outside for the day, I will wear this La Roche Posay SPF 50 sunscreen serum.  I love how lightweight it feels, it doesn’t break my skin out, and it truly prevents sunburns.

Make sure to apply a little extra on the area behind your ears and both sides of your neck and chest!

Step 10 | Mist

One of my favorite things to do while I work (especially during the winter!) is to give myself a few spritzes of this DHC Super Collagen Mist throughout the day.

Before I started using mists, I thought they seemed unnecessary.

However, when I tried this collagen mist, I noticed my skin maintained a fresh look and if I was wearing makeup, it stayed looking “just applied” and didn’t get dried out or patchy looking.

I am now a firm believer in a mid-day mist!

ROUTINE #2 | OIL CLEANSING

Step 1 | Oil Cleanse

I have been using DHC Deep Cleansing Oil for over 16 years now, which blows my mind!  There is no other skincare product that I have used longer.

A few years ago I started using this oil cleanser, which is meant to gently dissolve makeup, on my bare skin in the morning as my main face wash. The result: completely clear pores, smooth skin that felt balanced (not tight or dry) and all of the blackheads around my nose were gone.

One key thing with oil cleansing, it must be applied with dry hands to dry skin.  You only add water once you are ready to rinse.  I leave the oil on for 30 seconds up to a few minutes to really let it work and then rinse.

Step 4 | Jade Rolling

I have a full post here on how I use my jade roller if I need to depuff my face.  Just 30 seconds of rolling helps get your blood moving, which boosts skin’s glow and gets the lymphatic drainage started.
