Makeup + Bathroom Organization | Storage Tips, Tricks + Hacks

My love of makeup + limited bathroom counter space = producers of the tv show Hoarders DREAM.

My bathroom was getting crazy.  So I bought a Caboodles counter top organizer.  And for a little while, life was beautiful.

The Caboodles held just the right amount of makeup to do a full face…for a normal human, this organizer holds the perfect amount of makeup.  I wish I could be normal, *sigh.*

Then slowly over the course of two or three months, more and more makeup started to creep up onto the counter.   I had a gazillion tubes, palettes, and new products waiting to be tested.  Everyone wants their 15 minutes I guess, right?  🙂

Things were starting to get way out of control.  I figured it was time to match crazy with crazy and get one of those huge acrylic makeup organizers.  So I went to the Internets with a BIG DREAM.  That was soon crushed.  Okay, those gorgeous 5 drawer tall acrylic organizers?  They start around $150.  WHAT?  $150 FOR THE THING THAT HOLDS MY MAKEUP??

I checked out the Container Store as a last hope.  I thought maybe they’d have some more budget friendly options.  But sadly, their drawers started around $120.  As I was walking out the door, I spotted these clear acrylic men’s stackable shoe boxes.  They are boxes that have drawers that pull out.  $12.99 each.  My heart started racing but I knew I had to wait to get excited until I got home and made sure they worked.

I put them on the counter at home, and the Caboodles container fit perfectly on top of them.  Success!  Total cost for Caboodles and two shoes boxes?  $52.  Completely worth it to get my makeup it’s own little suite at casa de my bano.

I ended up putting blushes and some lipsticks in the bottom clear drawer.  The top box got all my eye shadows and palettes.  They are getting full quickly though, so it might be time to do a giveaway box for my friends soon.

WALLS:

My walls were looking a little bland in pictures and tutorials also, so they got in on the redecorating bandwagon!  I applied some grey tree branch wall decals from Urban Outfitters.  They actually have a lot of great decorating pieces that are really affordable.  For prints/artwork, I got an adorable lovebirds print from a friend that I love.  I bought three prints from Etsy.com: a striped heart, a redhead with her hair in a bun (!) (Thank you to my friend Courtney who found that one for me) and another printed with a striped circle that says “Good Morning, Beautiful!”  I hung that one next to my mirror, because I think it’s a lovely way to start the day.  Especially as I’m taking my retainers out.

I got most of the frames at Target.

SIMPLIFY:

I picked up an “M” mug from Anthropologie for $8 and store my makeup brushes in that.

Also at Target, I picked up a clear plastic container (intended for beverages) and put my mouthwash in that.  I love transferring the products I need into simple, unmarked containers.  On a store shelf, product labels are designed to jump out and grab your eye so you purchase them, but in a bathroom they just get overwhelming.

I picked up a small glass mason jar.  I think it was $2 or $3 at World Market.  That’s where I store my q-tips.

Bathroom transformed!  I’d love to know what you think!

Agh. The corner is getting messy messy messy again.

AND SO…My last minute Container Store m.i.r.a.c.l.e.s. to the rescue:

After.
Pour your mouthwash into a simple container to declutter.
Good reminder to think nice thoughts about yourself!
Mason jar to store Q-tips.

Thank you for reading…any other bathroom de-clutter tips I should know about?  Thoughts on my re-do?  Still want to submit me for Hoarders? 😉  Let me know in the comments below!

Stay Glam!

  • This looks great! I love it all :-) How good are those acrylic shoe boxes and mouthwash container!! Thanks for sharing <3

    • Thank you! It really helped clean up the look of my bathroom. I hope it works for you too! (Btw, the container was only $4 at Target!!)

  • Very cute. I added to my Pinterest =)
I thought I was the only one who likes my cotton swabs in a jar!

  • The producers of Hoarders have been knocking on my door, too. What a great way to organize (and still be able to find ;) all my makeup stuff! Thank you!

    • Lol, yes makeup hoarders unite! :) So glad you found it helpful! Thank you for letting me know!!

  • Love this!!! The term 'Total life Saver' undermines this brilliant idea! I have been searching everywhere for larger makeup containers for months and to no avail found nothing under $100 bucks per container. This is amazing! Ordering ASAP!

    • I'm so happy to hear that!!! I know, I could not find one for under a $100 either and I would so just rather spend that money on makeup :). So glad this helps!
