Nars Guy Bourdin Holiday Collection Limited Edition Lip Pencil Set

Just so we are all on the same page “Coffret” is a fancy word for the-best-lip-pencil-set-ever.

I walked into the Sephora during their V.I.B sale (20% off the ENTIRE STORE) and I had given myself a pep talk.  I was going to stay focused and get the foundations I wanted (more on those in another post).  Maybe an eyeshadow kit.  Maybe.  I knew what colors I need for the foundations.  I was to get in and get out.

But then I went into the store and it was a different story.  I touched, I swatched, I believed.  At one point I looked down at my arms and had to laugh at myself.  I looked like one of those rainbow striped candy canes that tastes like cherries.

I had been admiring the Guy Bourdin limited edition makeup since I got the first email about it from Nars.  The colors seemed so beautiful and kind of far out, but somehow looked like you could still wear each of them.  I had seen the blushes in real life and I am an adult woman not embarrassed to admit that the purple blush took my breath away.

I did not realize that Nars had a limited edition Guy Bourdin lip pencil set until I went nuts in Sephora that day.  (Quick link to Sephora here)  Not joking, I did a double take, then swatched all the colors.  I expected them to be too bright for everyday wear, but too my surprise every single color was wearable and stunning.

The set comes with five pencils:

– 0.06 oz x 2 Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Cruella, Sex Machine,  Never Say Never & Dolce Vita
– 0.08 oz Velvet Gloss Lip Pencil in New Lover

and a black makeup bag with blue lips on the front.

Nars pencils are normally .086 oz  and $25 each, so this set is an insane deal at $45 for all five pencils.  Sephora says the set is a $97 value.

I’ve already written about my love for Nars matte lip pencils HERE.  However, it is worth mentioning again that these lip pencils have a way of looking so natural on your lips.  I can’t explain it, it just looks like your lips are supposed to be the shade you are wearing.  The Velvet Gloss texture was also amazing.  The color really lasts and stays on your lips, but is has this gorgeous sheen and dimension.

New Lover looks like your lips, but more defined with a hint of pink.

Cruella is a gorgeous deep red, very sophisticated.

Never Say Never is a wearable purple-ish pink.  Its so, so beautiful on and unlike any other shade I own.

Dolce Vita is one of Nar’s best selling shades.  It is a dark dusty rose.  It’s pretty but I think will look better on me in the summer when I’m not so pale.

Sex Machine might be my favorite out of the whole set, it’s a stunning light rose shade.  It looks like a matte version of your lips.  It defines your natural lip shape and the natural color visually plumps your lips.

I love Nars lip pencils because the color lasts for hours without having to be touched up.  Also, they don’t slip around on your face, so there is not danger of accidentally touching your mouth and ending up with red lipstick above your eyebrow.  Been there, done there, still too soon/painful to talk about.

This set is a MUST HAVE.  The colors are beyond gorgeous, with some really unique shades, and it is an insane deal.  Run, don’t walk to get it before it sells out.  It is limited edition so when it’s gone it’s gone and we’ll all be crying.
