The Best Products for Dry Skin // My Skincare Routine

Hi beautiful babies!  As I filmed this video, I realized that a lot of these products I use year-round, as I have dry skin in general and a few are extreme dry skin (winter) specific.

When I grew up in Upstate NY, those winters were rough.  My skin would just hurt for a solid 3 months straight.  I wish I had so many of these products then.  But I was a teenager and thought I knew anything and everything (ha!) and used a ton of products for oily skin and acne.  My poor skin!  It was so dry and itchy and hurt to touch from the moment the temperatures starting dropping in the Fall, all the way until Spring.

As I got into my mid and late twenties, 1 – I was grateful I wore sunblock throughout my teens and early twenties.  That is my one big skin win!  And 2 – it was time to get serious about moisture.  My skin was getting a bit taut and pulled looking (a sign it is dehydrated), even though the Los Angeles winters are so mild and a world of difference from those zero temp days of Upstate NY.

I started using oils in 2003/2004 and gradually started adding more and more to everything.  Oil in my face wash, oil as my face moisturizer, oil in my hair.  I went oil crazy!

Before we get to the video, I will say my #1 tip for having hydrated skin will not cost you one single dime: DRINK WATER.  Every dang second from the moment you wake up until you go to sleep – Stay Sipping.  That’s the official GirlGetGlamorous motto, haha!  It’ll make a huge difference.

I agree that oils are great. I began using the Mad Hippie oils about six months ago, as well as its eye cream, and I can definitely see and feel a difference in my skin. Also, I recently began using the Shea Moisture black soap for the eczema on my back and it’s practically disappeared. Thank you for sharing!

Oh chick. I love following your posts, but I’m so frustrated that I can’t get hold of half of what you talk of because I’m in England! I have copper hair and wanted to go strawberry blonde (that’s how I came across your posts – on a you tube video) but can I get Wella Colour charm in the the Uk! NOPE!!! So I will keep following and liking and hoping that I can afford the flight to US, with an empty case to stock up on the goodies you tell us about! Xxx love following you btw! X Dawn

      Hi Dawn,

Thank you for reading, doll!! I’m so sorry you can’t get the products, I wish I knew the line that was sold there. Have you ever tried one of those mail forwarding companies that will ship an order from overseas? I know a lot of gals do that for colourpop. You give the mailing company the list of what you want, then they purchase and ship it to you.

Not sure if this will help, but worth a shot!

I have had a sample packet of the DHC cleansing oil sitting in my vanity for months, but I was too scared to use it. (Even though I’m in my 30s, I still get acne- so I’ve always stayed away from oil products!)

After watching your video- I busted it out and tried it. I’ve used it two nights in a row and so far, and I love it! No breakouts or irritation, no greasy gross feeling afterwards. Just soft clean skin! I told my hubby today to order me a full size for my birthday coming up!!

      Ami,

I totally feel you! I was so scared to try oils at first also. I thought I was going to end up a mess, instead they’ve changed my skin!! Glad you like them too. I also like to stock up during their Cleansing Oil sale. It happens once or twice a year (they have great sales in general). Happy Birthday!

I’m going to watch this when I’m not at work. I have been trying to drink more water, but I struggle! Why is something so easy so hard for me?! Should I buy one of those $60 water bottles that reminds me?

HA, you do not need to buy a $60 water bottle but I love the enthusiasm.

I can’t go even a few hours without water, or else my throat starts to feel like it’s closing up and I get cranky and a headache. So it’s a bit more programmed for me to drink all day long. But I will say keeping a water bottle with the straw coming out (target, baby, $6) has been one of the most helpful purchases. Also, keep water by your bed and sip before you go to bed and when you wake up. I can’t go to bed anymore without a water bottle by my side! xo boo!
