Pack Your Bags | How To Hide Dark Under Eye Circles + Bags

This topic and question has come up again and again, because at some point we’ve all had a late night/early morning and woken up with some serious under eye circles and puffiness.

I’m really excited to do a tutorial on it because it’s totally doable to change your under eye area from puffy and dark to smooth and bright within minutes.  It takes a few steps, but once you get the hang of it, the application goes quickly.

Prevention |

If you are having one of those (super fun) nights that includes yummy, salty food and a little booze, or a late night working until 2 or 3 in the morning, you probably know that you’ll wake up with under eye bags.

So prep for the next morning by using an eye cream that tightens skin.  I like the Sunday Riley cream for this, I couldn’t believe how much it de puffed the skin under my eyes.

Then I drink a giant glass of water about 30 minutes before bed.  I also keep my water bottle by my bed, because I like to have a few sips of water when I first wake up, but don’t want to get out of bed yet.  I call it “adjusting to the day.”  Ha.

The extra water will help flush the salt and booze out of your system.

De Puff |

Time to start the day.

May I introduce you to under eye patches?  They are my hero.

They will help de puff the bags under your eyes, for a smoother surface to apply makeup.

Before I wash my face, while I am making coffee, brushing my teeth, etc. I stick on these under eye patches.  It’s best to try and leave them on for at least 20 minutes if possible, but even 5 or 10 minutes is great.

Additionally, you can smooth a Jade Roller over the patches for extra lymphatic drainage.

Then I wash my face and do my normal morning routine.  I use a moisturizing eye cream in the a.m. to get that area hydrated for a long day and prepped for makeup.

Makeup |

You’ll need a peach correcting cream to counteract the dark circles.  Dab this under your eyes, only on the dark circles.  Gently pat it in.

I like the Becca Under Eye Brightening Corrector (fair-to-medium skin tone for me) for correcting.  It’s important to only get this peach on the dark circles, or else it will end up looking funny.

The peach counters the blueish dark tones of the under eyes, so if it gets on your skin that isn’t blue, it will just look like bright peach.

Once this is blended, I go over the area with my concealer.

I dab my concealer from the inside of my eye, just under my eyebrow on the inside, all the way down to the bottom of my nose.  Then I dab it out to the outer corner of my eye to form a triangle shape.  I let this sit for a minute, then blend it out with a damp beauty blender.

Then I take a tapered brush and dip it into a yellow banana powder.  If you are super fair like me, I blend my banana powder with my normal light face powder so that it doesn’t look too yellow.

That’s it!  I usually spray my face with a setting spray when I am totally done with my makeup to lock everything in place.
