How To Get Loose + Beachy Waves | Easy Hair Tutorial

These loose, beachy waves are officially my go-to hair style, because it’s so easy and looks so pretty!  The curls loosen up over the next few days with no touch ups required.

STYLING TIPS

I found the key to this style is:

1 |start the curl about half way down the hair, then pull the ends straight down through the curling iron without curling them.  The video goes into more detail.

2 | If you want a little more lift at your roots, hold the curling iron horizontal on the inch of hair closest to your scalp.  Then take the curling iron out and do the vertical curls.  This gives the style a little more bounce.

    • With a wand I would wrap the ends around the bottom of the wand but very, very loosely. Whereas the other pieces are horizontal around the wand, the bottom inch or two could be held almost vertical. I hope this makes sense!

  1. I just found you today and I already I know I’ll be keeping up with your posts! I can’t believe someone has the same hair type as me! I always have done this hair style too because it’s so simple to do, I just never thought of it as the blogger hair but it’s so true! It’s very hard to explain to my friends so it’s great you did a video to show how to get the waves.

Also that hair color is gorgeous on you!

  2. Love the hair color shade in these pics! Not too red or too blond – perfect shade. Which hair dye did you use – Is it the last INOA one in your recent blog on copper hair?

    • Hi Suze,

Thank you! Yes, this is the last INOA formula, Anna did it in the salon for me. 🙂

      Molly

    • Thank you!! This was the formula Anna came up with for the 3rd INOA formula. I appreciate it, it’s my favorite shade too…

  3. Hi there. I’ve been home dying my hair red naturally dirty blonde for about 15 yrs. I’m about to attempt the great grow out. It looks like hell. Like a skunk. Any suggestions, or should I just grin and bare it.

    • I think you can definitely color it! You are naturally a dirty blonde or naturally a redhead? It shouldn’t be a problem either way to color back to your roots.

  4. I have always tried to do this look and have always come out looking more like Shirley Temple, so thank you for this video! How do you do your hair for sleep to keep these curls for a couple of days? Also is it possible to do this with a round brush when you blow dry?

    • I think you should be able to do this with a round brush! The technique would be similar, start in the middle and pull the ends slightly straight. I usually sleep with my hair down if I’ve styled it, or up in a messy bun if I’ve air dried it.

  5. Great tutorial! You are gorgeous, as always! I’ve been using my flat iron for forever as a curling iron but this makes me want to break out my curing iron from retirement. What heat setting are you using? I tend to go higher because my hair is super thick, but maybe for these loose waves I should ease up on the heat.

    • Thank you, so nice of you! I love curling irons, my obsession level is scary, haha! I usually try to go as low as possible while it will still curl in one try. The ghd Curve irons are all pre-set at the “optimal” temperature though, so I just turn it on. I believe it’s set at 365 degrees. It’s HOT but doesn’t fry my hair. I hope this helps! To get looser waves, you can just wrap the hair more spread out along the curling iron too, that should help!

  6. Being a blogger, I was drinking water and laughed so hard at “blogger hair” that I had to clean my screen off. This is great! You look beautiful as always. You made me a believer in that DHC cleansing oil. My mother used that and had beautiful skin. I love your posts!

    • Ha, glad it gave you a laugh!! And also that you love the DHC oil. Changed my skin!
