Burt’s Bees Just Stepped Up Their Lip Game.

Burt’s Bees just released these lip crayons and Holy Heck.

Nitty gritty details:  $8.99 each, 100% natural, available in six shades, easy to find in drugstores and online.

I saw these on Instagram and needed to try them immediately. (Thank you @kateydenno!)  I am a huge fan of Burt’s Bees tinted lip balms and lip shines.  In the past couple of years, Burt’s Bees has stepped their lip game up to the next level.  I use the tinted lip balms daily and wear them in coordinating shades over matte lipsticks to keep my lips hydrated.  Read my full post on that {here}.  I remember when Burt’s Bees lip products used to feel weird and heavy on my lips and I can assure you that they changed the formulas on their new lip products in a big way.

The lip crayons are a matte lipstick in a crayon form, meaning they twist up and can be used as a lip liner and lipstick in one.  In the photos below, I used them as a lip liner and lipstick.  In the future, I might use a separate lip liner, because I do like my lip liner line to be super, super precise.  I’m slightly OCD.  And by slightly, I mean, Yep, all the way!

They are INCREDIBLE.  It’s the exact product that was missing from the market:  an all-natural, pigmented lipstick, available at a drugstore price.  There is nothing else like this available.

I purchased Sedona Sands and Hawaiian Smolder first, then the very next day went back and bought Napa Vineyard.  I do plan on picking up the remaining shades: Redwood Forest, Niagara Overlook, and Carolina Coast.

Sedona Sands:  beautiful pink nude.  Almost an exact dupe for my beloved L’Oreal JLo lipstick.  I know.  I know.  I used Sedona Sands in my last post, about bridal beauty.

Hawaiian Smolder:   pretty rose tinted pink.

Napa Vineyard:  true, deep red.

Not swatched, but from what I saw in-store:

Redwood Forest:  deep, intense red.

Carolina Coast:  soft pink.

Niagara Overlook: coral pink

L to R: Sedona Sands, Hawaiian Smolder, Napa Vineyard.

Review Time!

Texture:  These apply creamy on the lips.  They glided on easily, with minimal tugging.  I did not find them to be overly drying, as matte lipsticks can sometimes be.  They do have a slightly dry texture when they set.  If this bothers you, which is does for me at times, I use the tinted balm or lip shine over it to make the texture more comfortable for this Little Princess.  The balm keeps the look fairly matte and the lip shine gives it a pretty satin finish.

Smell/Taste:  These have no scent or added fragrance.  My Heaven.  I do not need perfume on my lips.  They have no taste either.  Yes.  All the yeses.

Wear:  Each shade wore for several hours without a touch up.  The colors stayed vibrant and true – the shades didn’t change at all.  After several hours, I did use the Burt’s Bees tinted lip balms in coordinating colors over these matte lip crayons, as I do with all my matte lipsticks.  I definitely recommend picking up the balms to go with these crayons.  It’s a great 1-2 punch.

Packaging:  The lipsticks come in crayon form.  They contain .11 oz of product which is a standard size lipstick.  They roll up and do not require a sharpener.  The lid looks like a honeycomb, which is a really cute touch.

Price: $8.99 each.  Hot tip:  sign up for a CVS shopping card and give them your email.  CVS regularly emails coupons for 20-30% off your purchase.  Cha-ching.

Overall:  My main thought when I wear these is “Where have you been all my life?”  I wear lip products every single day, even if I’m not wearing any other makeup.  To have all natural lip products that I actually truly love has been a game changer for me.  I have found myself reaching for these lip crayons over all my other lipsticks lately, especially the Sedona Sands crayon with the Honeysuckle lip balm over it.  The combo of amazing pigment, price, longevity, and natural ingredients get All The Points.  Pick up the lip balms in a similar shade when you get these.  You will be super happy you did.  Burt’s Bees for the Win.

Who says redheads can't wear red lipstick?

Btw, I’m obsessed with that green dress I’m wearing in the top pics.  I just got it and wear it almost everyday.  It’s a faux wrap dress and soft and stretchy like PJ’s but in a gorgeous dress.  The best part is that you can adjust the wrap area at the top to cover everything.  If you have a large bust like me, wrap dresses can go wrong so fast.  This one is the best and so flattering!
